                                Peer interview: Lisseth 

    Have you ever experienced the pressure of fulfilling your parents’ desires? Being the eldest child tends to have tons of pressure of doing things well and being a great role model to your youngest siblings. This scenario occurred due to parents wanting their kids to do the best and be living better than they are currently living. Especially the minorities because certain parents just immigrated from their country to the United States which is a huge deal for them to have their children achieving the american dream.

Lisseth deals with this idea of not knowing who she is. Growing she had to move from Bronx to Queens due to safety issues. Lisseth was originally from the Bronx. The Bronx was where her mom had some relatives, which is why she lived there for two years. Her family had experienced some violence. These cases caused her to move to Queens due to the lack of protection. Going through this experience had not really affected her but made her had this idea of having this assumption that the Bronx is an unsafe environment. 

What’s her hopes and dreams ? Lisseth wants to travel. Traveling made her experienced and gained knowledge from the places that she had been through already. Exploring these places had made her see the culture of the area,  how some people behave and interact. The places that she had been to are California in San Francisco, Mexico in Puebla, Japan and Cuba is where she is heading this summer. Lisseth wants to graduate from college and hopefully become a senate because her major is political. Politics was something that captured her attention due to the desire of creating laws, fixing the justice system and helping people. Also, be able to live in Paris for the rest of her life since that is where she wants to go. 

How do you spend your free time ? Lisseth basically watches youtube, listen to music, play games, or just watches movies. These activities are done when she had this extra time available. The genre that she likes for music is R&B. Youtube she watches random video that catches attention. 

What were her influences in her life to be at the place where she is at ? The most precious person that made her be at where she is at is her dad. Her dad is a fashion designer. Fashion was Lisseth’s first major or main goal to be when she became older. Lisseth’s father made her attend a fashion highschool. During her highschool experience she didn’t have the same goal anymore due to tons of work and didn’t have the same vision as before. 

Don’t really know who she is ? Growing up being the eldest and having two younger brothers made her have few minutes on herself. Some responsibility that she had was coming home early, having good grades, and asking for permission in order to be allowed by her parents. 

Having great grades made her work hard in order to make her parents feel happy and not disappointed. This a way for her parents to feel good about the way of raising her child and not fail them from the amount of effort they had been putting toward her. Asking permission made her feel less privileged to do certain activities like sleepover, and going to places with friends. All of this situation caused her to dorm or moved out from her house in order to have freedom. She dorm at Stony Brook University in order to not be controlled. These factors caused her to not really explore what she likes and her real passion. 

The difference between her and her brothers ? Her parents were always strict toward her and now that her brothers are growing up there’s a distinguishing rule to her brother. For instance she had to be home at a certain time but her mom doesn’t complain when her brother comes late home. Her brother could also hang out with their friends without asking permission which made her react shock and feel unfairly treated.
